One of the most noticeable updates is also one of the simplest: the handle. On the V4 D7, opening the firebox door required a detachable operating tool. It was clever in theory, but not always the smoothest user experience. Rocal listened to feedback and replaced it with a fixed side handle.
This new handle isn’t just permanently attached — it’s also wrapped in a soft silicone grip designed to stay cool to the touch, even when the fire is roaring inside. It’s a small change that makes a big difference: you no longer need to hunt for a tool, and you can refuel quickly and safely without worrying about scorched fingers.
More Efficient, Lower Output
Performance has also been fine-tuned. The D7 V5 has a nominal output of 6.6kW, compared to the 7.5kW rating of its predecessor. On paper that looks like a drop, but in practice it’s a smart adjustment. Most UK living rooms simply don’t need 9kW peaks of heat — and oversizing a stove is one of the fastest routes to inefficiency, wasted fuel, and excess emissions.
The new output range of 4.5kW to 8kW makes the D7 V5 more versatile across different room sizes, with enough flexibility to handle cooler nights without overpowering the space on milder evenings.
But the real headline figure is efficiency: the V5 achieves an impressive 88%, up from the already-solid 83% efficiency of the V4. That means more of the energy in your logs is converted into usable heat, with less lost up the chimney.
The improved combustion system also means the D7 V5 easily passes EcoDesign standards, producing significantly lower levels of particulates and other emissions than older stoves. For anyone concerned about air quality and future legislation, that’s a reassurance worth having.
Another major upgrade comes in how the D7 can be installed. Previously, your options were mainly wall-mounted or pedestal-mounted. Now, with the V5, Rocal has added a ceiling-suspended version — and it’s not just a gimmick.
This model comes with a custom fixing designed specifically for UK ceilings, making it fully compatible with insulated twinwall flue systems. That means it can be suspended safely and securely in a wide range of settings, including open-plan spaces where a freestanding stove might dominate the floor area.
The wall-mounted and pedestal versions remain available, so the D7 V5 now covers three distinct installation styles. Whatever your layout or aesthetic preference, there’s a D7 configuration to match.
Smarter Connections, Flue Size and Clearances
Rocal has also responded to installer feedback with a redesigned flue connection system. The D7 V5 now uses a 150mm (6″) flue outlet, down from the 180mm (7″) outlet on the previous generation. That might sound like a small change, but it’s a big deal for UK installations.
A 150mm flue is by far the most common size in the UK, which means easier sourcing, simpler installs, and lower costs compared to running a full 180mm system. If you’re planning a twinwall setup, the savings are even more noticeable — 150mm twinwall components are far more widely available and significantly less expensive. It’s also worth remembering that while you can always increase flue size as you go up from a stove, you can’t reduce it, making the smaller outlet a much more flexible starting point.
Alongside this, the D7 V5 can also be specified with a shorter 50mm flue spigot, which makes it far easier to connect directly to insulated twinwall pipes. That translates to smoother installations, especially in tighter spaces or when ceiling height is an issue.
Clearances have also been improved. Thanks to convection-cooled sides and better airflow, the D7 V5 now offers reduced distances to combustibles at the back and sides. That opens up more possibilities for where it can be positioned, and can reduce the need for additional heat shields or bulky clearance zones.
