Stûv 30 Compact One: A Rotating Masterpiece of Modern Stove Design

Discover why the Stûv 30 Compact One is one of the most controllable stoves we’ve ever tested. Sleek design, rotation, and instant air control responsiveness put it in a class of its own.

Why This Stove Stands Out

Today on Woodburner Insights, we’re diving into the Stûv 30 Compact One, filmed on location at Piping Hot Stoves in Stockton-on-Tees. With its unique rotating design, stylish finish, and superb control over the burn, this stove has quickly become one of the most impressive models we’ve featured.

The Compact One strips things back to basics compared with the 3-in-1 Compact. Instead of multiple door configurations, you get a single robust glass-fronted door—but the real magic lies in the rotating drum base and incredible responsiveness of its air controls.

Design & Features

The Stûv 30 Compact One sits on a rotating drum, allowing you to swivel the fire towards any part of your living space. It’s a conversation piece as much as a practical heater—perfect for open-plan rooms or simply for those who like their stove to double as a design statement.

The single glass-fronted door is solid and fuss-free, with heat-resistant ceramic glass rated to 800°C. A detachable handle neatly nests in the lower section when not in use, and the firebox is sized to take standard logs without unnecessary waste.

Performance & Control

This is where the Stûv 30 Compact One really shines. The 5 kW nominal output is ideal for modern, well-insulated homes, but thanks to its controllable range of 3–9 kW, you can adjust it to suit everything from a mild autumn evening to the coldest winter night.

The air controls are remarkably responsive—make a small adjustment and you see (and feel) the difference almost instantly. It’s this level of precision that sets the Stûv apart from many stoves in its class, and it makes living with it a genuine pleasure.

The patented air-wash system also ensures a consistently clear view of the flames. When paired with the secondary and tertiary combustion system, it delivers a clean, efficient burn with very low emissions.

Installation & Maintenance

The stove is simple to install with a 150 mm top flue connection, and the optional outside-air kit makes it especially suitable for airtight, energy-efficient homes. Combustion air is drawn directly from outside, keeping your living space draught-free.

Maintenance is minimal: leave a small layer of ash at the base of the firebox, empty the ash drawer every few burns, and enjoy how rarely you need to clean the glass thanks to the air-wash system. The build quality—cast-iron grate, firebricks, and robust gaskets—feels reassuringly durable.

Compact One vs. Compact 3-in-1

The standard Stûv 30 Compact offers three door modes: closed-glass, open fire, and full-glass stove. While versatile, most owners end up using the full-glass mode the majority of the time.

That’s why the Compact One makes so much sense—it simplifies the experience, avoids the maintenance of multiple seals and gaskets, and saves you around £1,300 compared to the 3-in-1 version. And with a price of around £3,800, it delivers premium design and controllability at a more accessible cost than many stoves with similar styling but far less responsiveness.

Control That Impresses

If there’s one takeaway from our time with the Stûv 30 Compact One, it’s just how impressive the controllability is. Adjusting the air sliders gives instant feedback—you can almost play with the flames—which makes this stove as engaging as it is practical. In fact, we couldn’t resist joking around during filming, cutting back to b-roll of us still tweaking the controls long after the main review wrapped up.

At around £3,800, the Stûv 30 Compact One offers a level of finesse and control you don’t always find, even in stoves costing considerably more. Combine that with its rotating design, sleek aesthetic, and proven clean-burn technology, and you’ve got a woodburner that punches above its weight in every sense.

Would you opt for the simplicity and control of the Compact One, or pay extra for the 3-in-1 flexibility? Let us know in the comments—we’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences.
